What To Expect With Cold Laser Therapy
Nothing
3% of patients have no reaction at all to Cold Laser Therapy
Lower Pain Levels
Most people feel a pain level reduction of 3 to 4 levels. Cold laser therapy can create a analgesic effect (as one does taking an aspirin) that masks pain while the body heals itself. It will eventually wear off. If the orginal pain area is over-stimulated, the now over-stressed area can create more pain. Continue with any meds you are taking and treat the area gently. In many cases when pain returns it does so at a much lower level.
Improved Movement
If you experience greater range of motion and movement - do NOT move or exert yourself differently than prior to treatment. When and if the pain returns it should do so at a lower level...Unless you over-stimulate the area as stated above.
Accelerated Wound Healing
If a scab forms too quickly and you have heat or pus build up under it, simply apply warm water to loosen the scab. As any build up releases you will continue to experience accelerated healing in that area. Wounds should be treated two days running and then every 3rd day thereafter until a full healing has occurred.
Greater Circulation
In some cases this may resemble the prickly, tingling feelin one experiences when a limb has fallen asleep and the blood rushes back in. This feeling may continue for two or three days as the body is healing.
Heat or Warmth
This is physiological reaction to increase circulation. To alleviate the burning sensation it is highly recommended that heat be applied. This will accelerate the healing processes and stop the burning. DO NOT APPLY ICE!
Fatigue
In some cases, the patient feels general fatigue and low energy. It is speculated that individuals who experience fatigue because of the accelerated rate of healing and the body's need for rest. If this is the case...REST. Let your body heal.
Increased Pain
In the case of some chronic conditions, the symptoms will go from chronic to acute. This is the body healing itself and moving from a systemic condition to a localized condition. As you continue treatments, your symptoms will continue to decrease to a more manageable (and possible non-existent) pain level.
Movement of Pain
Sometimes the pain feels as if it has moved to a different area. The body tends to feel pain where it is strongest, therefore once the pain of the treated area is alleviated, other pre-existing pain areas may present.
